Most fossils are comprised of formerly living (organic life) matter which has been turned into stone by heavily mineralized water or mud covering and infiltrating their cellular structure. Over time and with pressure their structures and forms are preserved as either complete replicas or impressions of their original shapes.

Our selection mainly concentrates on fossils in their natural state. Some of our pieces show the fossil after the surrounding matrix is polished down to reveal the fossil within. We have fossils ranging from a single nautilus (ammonoid) split open and polished to display its inner chambers to a rarer uncurled outline of the soft inner being preserved into a form akin to a "muddy saxophone" that Fred Flinstone might have played once.
